Kính thưa quý Anh Chị Em Lam viên,

Khi nắng hạ bắt đầu rải vàng trên những mái chùa quê hương thứ hai, chúng ta lại sắp bước vào thời gian linh thiêng nhất của đời sống Tăng đoàn: Mùa An Cư Kiết Hạ. Đây vốn là truyền thống ngàn đời nối tiếp từ thời Đức Phật tại thế, đồng thời là dịp thù thắng để hàng xuất gia thanh tịnh thân tâm, trau dồi giới đức, và xiển dương Chánh Pháp giữa đời. Nhưng cũng trong ý nghĩa đó, những người cư sĩ – đặc biệt là hàng ngũ Huynh trưởng và đoàn sinh GĐPT – không thể đứng ngoài.

An Cư Kiết Hạ, nói theo tinh thần Phật giáo, là mùa tự thân trở về để sống đúng với Giới – Định – Tuệ. Nhưng với chúng ta, những người mang trên vai chiếc áo lam và lý tưởng Bồ Tát đạo, thì đây cũng là lúc để thể hiện trọn vẹn đạo tình giữa Giáo Hội và Gia Đình Phật Tử, giữa Tăng đoàn và cộng đồng cư sĩ hộ trì Chánh pháp.

Chúng tôi tha thiết kêu gọi toàn thể Lam viên, đặc biệt là các đơn vị trực thuộc Miền Quảng Đức và các vùng phụ cận miền Nam California, hãy tích cực tham gia, hộ trì, yểm trợ và đồng hành cùng Khóa An Cư Kiết Hạ do Giáo Hội Phật Giáo Việt Nam Thống Nhất Hoa Kỳ tổ chức.

Đây không những là sự tham gia hình thức, mà là một hành động thể hiện ý thức và bổn phận tu học, đồng thời cũng là một lời tuyên thệ sống động rằng GĐPT Việt Nam vẫn đang kế thừa và đồng hành cùng Giáo Hội trên con đường giáo dục thế hệ trẻ Phật giáo trong tinh thần kế thừa chánh pháp, chấn hưng đạo tâm.

Huynh trưởng GĐPT không thể chỉ dạy dỗ tuổi trẻ bằng lời nói, mà bằng chính hành vi tu tập, sự hiện diện thân giáo, và sự cộng trú với Chư Tăng trong những sự kiện trọng đại như An Cư Kiết Hạ. Sự có mặt của các anh chị, của từng đoàn sinh, trong những buổi lễ khai mạc, lễ nhập hạ, lễ cúng dường trai tăng, hay chỉ đơn giản là một ngày phụng sự việc gì cần đến – chính là hình ảnh sống động nhất của tình lam trong lòng đạo pháp.

Kính thưa quý anh chị em,

Nếu GĐPT được Giáo Hội tin tưởng trao sứ mệnh “thay mặt Giáo Hội giáo dục tuổi trẻ Phật giáo”, thì bổn phận chúng ta không đơn thuần chỉ nằm trong các buổi sinh hoạt chủ nhật. Mà còn phải được khẳng định rõ nét qua sự gắn bó sinh tử với Tăng đoàn – rường cột của Chánh pháp.

Trong bối cảnh hiện nay, khi đời sống tại hải ngoại khiến tâm người dễ xao động, sinh hoạt dễ rơi vào hình thức, thì chính những mùa An Cư là dịp để chúng ta hâm lại ngọn lửa lý tưởng. Hâm lại bằng cách đem tuổi trẻ về gần hơn với đạo vị Tăng già, đem tinh thần cư sĩ hộ trì đến gần hơn với đạo nghiệp hoằng hóa.

Trong Lá Thư Chủ nhiệm kỳ này, thông qua vai trò Trưởng Ban Hướng Dẫn GĐPT Việt Nam Tại Hoa Kỳ, chúng tôi khẩn thiết mời gọi:
– Các BHD Miền, đặc biệt Miền Quảng Đức, lập kế hoạch cụ thể để tham gia hộ trì Khóa An Cư;
– Các đơn vị trưởng tổ chức cho Huynh trưởng và Đoàn sinh tham dự, hỗ trợ, tùy nghi theo khả năng;
– Các anh chị Huynh trưởng cao niên và thâm niên cùng hiện diện, sách tấn và là cầu nối tinh thần giữa thế hệ trẻ và Tăng đoàn.

Nguyện cầu hồng ân Tam Bảo gia hộ cho Khóa An Cư Kiết Hạ thành tựu viên mãn.

Nguyện cho từng Lam viên chúng ta gieo duyên sâu dày với Tăng bảo, vun bồi đạo tâm, và làm đẹp thêm hình ảnh GĐPT trong mắt Tăng đoàn và giữa lòng cộng đồng Phật tử Việt Nam tại hải ngoại.

From Devotion to Responsibility: A Letter of Encouragement for the Rains Retreat Season

To: All Brothers and Sisters – Leaders and Youth Members of GĐPT Vietnam in the United States
Especially: The Quang Duc Region and Local Chapters in Southern California

Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Dharma,

As the golden summer light begins to brush across the rooftops of our temples in this second homeland, we once again approach the most sacred period in the life of the Sangha: the Rains Retreat (An Cư Kiết Hạ). This millennia-old tradition, originating from the time of the Buddha, is a profound opportunity for monastics to purify the body and mind, deepen precepts, and uphold the Dharma in the world. And within this sacred cycle, we as lay practitioners—especially as members of GĐPT—are not to remain on the sidelines.

The Rains Retreat, in the Buddhist tradition, is a season of returning inward, dwelling in the Threefold Training of Sīla, Samādhi, and Prajñā. But for us, who wear the gray shirt and carry the Bodhisattva ideal, it is also a time to manifest the spiritual kinship between the Sangha and the Buddhist Youth Movement, between the monastic community and the lay members entrusted with preserving and transmitting the Dharma.

We earnestly call upon all Lam members, especially those from the Quang Duc Region and neighboring Southern California chapters, to wholeheartedly participate in, support, and accompany the Rains Retreat organized by the Unified Buddhist Sangha of Vietnam in the United States.

This is not a mere external engagement, but a living expression of spiritual consciousness and training responsibility. It is a declaration that GĐPTVN continues to carry forward the Sangha’s vision to educate future generations of Vietnamese Buddhists with firm roots in Dharma and compassionate resolve.

A Dharma Teacher in GĐPT cannot lead solely through words, but must lead through embodied practice, through presence, through living the Dharma alongside the Sangha—especially in meaningful spiritual events such as the Rains Retreat. Whether attending the opening ceremony, supporting daily retreat logistics, offering meals to the monastics, or volunteering for a single day of service—your presence is the most visible and heartfelt testimony of the Lam spirit within the heart of the Dharma.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
If the GĐPT has been entrusted by the Sangha with the noble mission of “representing the Sangha in educating Vietnamese Buddhist youth,” then our responsibility cannot be limited to Sunday gatherings. It must be expressed through a deep, living connection with the Sangha—the very foundation of Dharma preservation and realization.

In today’s diasporic context, when worldly distractions abound and spiritual routines may turn mechanical, it is in this season of Rains Retreat that we rekindle our inner flame of aspiration—by drawing our youth closer to the living presence of the Sangha, and by bringing the heart of lay support into harmony with the monastic path of Dharma propagation.

In this season’s letter, on behalf of the GĐPTVN in the United States, we respectfully and wholeheartedly invite:
– All Regional Councils, especially Quang Duc Region, to design concrete plans to accompany and support the Rains Retreat;
– All unit leaders to organize for Dharma Teachers and youth members to attend and assist to the best of their capacity;
– All senior Dharma Teachers to be present, to offer encouragement, and to serve as spiritual bridges between generations and between the youth and the Sangha.

May the boundless blessings of the Triple Gem guide this Rains Retreat to perfect fulfillment.
May each of us deepen our karmic affinity with the Sangha, nourish our spiritual roots, and further beautify the image of GĐPTVN in the hearts of the Sangha and throughout the wider Vietnamese Buddhist community in the diaspora.
