Trong mọi sinh hoạt của Gia Đình Phật Tử, dù ở tầm vóc một Ban Hướng Dẫn gánh vác phạm vi thế giới, toàn quốc, miền hay trong vai trò khiêm tốn của một Huynh Trưởng trong đơn vị, lý tưởng “điều hành bằng tinh thần Bồ Tát Đạo” chính là ngọn đèn định hướng và là mạch sống của công việc lãnh đạo. Đó không phải là nghệ thuật quản trị đơn thuần, càng không chỉ là việc duy trì guồng máy tổ chức, mà là hành trình gieo trồng hạt giống giác ngộ vào từng tâm hồn, vun bồi sức sống của tình Lam và khơi mở con đường thăng tiến tâm linh cho chính mình cũng như cho mọi người. Khi đem tinh thần Bồ Tát Đạo vào điều hành, mỗi quyết định không những giải quyết công việc trước mắt mà còn hướng về lợi ích lâu dài, hài hòa giữa kỷ cương và lòng từ, giữa trí tuệ và cảm thông, giữa trách nhiệm tổ chức và tâm nguyện độ sinh. Đó là lý tưởng biết đặt sự trưởng thành của tập thể lên trên lợi ích cá nhân, lấy sự an lạc hòa hợp của anh chị em làm niềm hạnh phúc và xem mỗi thử thách là một cơ hội tu tập, mỗi thành công là một nhân duyên để gieo thêm thiện nghiệp cho đời.
“Điều hành Ban Hướng Dẫn bằng tâm Bồ Tát Đạo” bấy giờ là một quan niệm lãnh đạo đặc thù trong tổ chức Phật giáo, bởi nó vượt ra khỏi khuôn khổ quản trị hành chánh thông thường để bước vào chiều sâu của tâm hạnh, trí tuệ và lý tưởng phụng sự. Đây không phải chỉ là việc áp dụng lòng từ bi vào điều hành mà là sự kết hợp nhuần nhuyễn giữa trí tuệ quán chiếu và hạnh nguyện độ sinh – điều đã làm nên bản chất khác biệt của mọi hoạt động GĐPT so với các tổ chức xã hội thuần túy.
Người điều hành bằng tâm Bồ Tát Đạo trước hết không tự xem mình là “người đứng trên” hay “người ra lệnh”, mà tự nhận là pháp khí của Tam Bảo, là người bạn đạo đồng hành và dẫn đường cho anh chị em Huynh Trưởng. Mỗi quyết định, mỗi lời nói, mỗi phương cách xử lý công việc đều soi chiếu qua lăng kính Tứ Vô Lượng Tâm: Từ để khích lệ và nâng đỡ, Bi để cảm thông và cứu giúp, Hỷ để chia sẻ và khơi dậy niềm vui trong thành quả chung, Xả để buông bỏ chấp trước và hóa giải bất đồng.
Một Ban Hướng Dẫn vận hành trên nền tảng Bồ Tát Đạo đồng nghĩa với việc “dĩ trí dẫn đạo, dĩ bi hành sự”. Trí tuệ giúp người lãnh đạo thấy rõ căn cơ, hoàn cảnh, nhân duyên của từng đơn vị, từng Huynh Trưởng; từ đó vạch ra đường hướng và kế hoạch phù hợp, khả thi, vững bền. Từ bi giúp khơi dậy sức mạnh nội tâm nơi mỗi thành viên, để họ không cảm thấy bị áp lực, mà được nâng đỡ, được truyền lửa tin yêu, để vượt qua trở ngại và gắn bó lâu dài.
Tâm Bồ Tát Đạo còn thể hiện ở nghệ thuật dung hòa nguyên tắc và linh hoạt. Giữ kỷ cương nhưng không khắc nghiệt; mở lòng lắng nghe nhưng không buông lỏng; nghiêm túc trong mục tiêu nhưng khoan hòa trong phương pháp. Chính sự hòa hợp ấy làm cho kỷ luật trở nên dễ chấp nhận, trách nhiệm trở thành niềm tự nguyện và mọi nỗ lực cá nhân đều hòa chung trong lý tưởng tập thể.
Điều hành bằng tâm Bồ Tát Đạo cũng đồng nghĩa với việc nuôi dưỡng một khí chất lãnh đạo vị tha: đặt sự trưởng thành của tập thể lên trên thành tích cá nhân; lấy sự an lạc, hòa hợp của anh chị em làm thước đo thành công; chấp nhận âm thầm gánh chịu để bảo vệ sự trong sáng của đại cuộc; kiên nhẫn gieo trồng và đợi chờ kết quả như người nông phu vun bón vườn cây. Trong môi trường như vậy, Ban Hướng Dẫn trở thành nơi hội tụ của những tâm hồn đồng chí hướng, biết nâng đỡ nhau trong từng bước đi.
Bồ Tát Đạo còn dạy ta luôn nhìn xa hơn cái lợi trước mắt. Mỗi quyết định hôm nay không riêng giải quyết công việc tức thời, mà còn gieo những hạt giống an lành cho thế hệ mai sau. Từng chuyến đi thăm đơn vị, từng cuộc họp huấn luyện, từng lời khích lệ riêng tư đều có thể trở thành nhân duyên khởi phát một chặng đường tu học dài lâu cho đàn em. Một Ban Hướng Dẫn vận hành như thế sẽ là bộ máy điều hành, đồng thời là một trường học sống của đạo đức, trí tuệ và tình người.
Và khi lý tưởng ấy được gìn giữ, mỗi thành viên Ban Hướng Dẫn sẽ thấy rõ công việc của mình không dừng ở tổ chức trại, điều động nhân sự hay giải quyết hành chánh; mà sâu xa hơn, đó là phụng sự con đường giác ngộ, góp phần kiến tạo một cộng đồng Lam vững mạnh, nơi mà từng Huynh Trưởng, từng đoàn sinh đều có cơ hội trưởng thành cả về tâm và trí.
Tóm lại, điều hành Ban Hướng Dẫn bằng tâm Bồ Tát Đạo là đem lý tưởng tự giác – giác tha – giác hạnh viên mãn thấm vào từng công việc, từng mối liên hệ, từng quyết định. Đó là cách để con đường Sen Trắng không chỉ hiện diện trên cờ hiệu hay khẩu hiệu, mà thật sự sống động trong từng ngày, từng bước, từng hơi thở phụng sự của mỗi chúng ta.

in the Spirit of the Bodhisattva Path
In every sphere of activity within the Vietnamese Buddhist Youth Association (GĐPT), whether on the scale of a Leadership Council serving the world, the nation, a regional district, or in the humble role of a single Huynh Trưởng within a local unit, the ideal of “administering in the spirit of the Bodhisattva Path” stands as both the guiding light and the lifeblood of leadership. It is not merely an art of administration, nor simply the task of keeping an organizational structure in motion. Rather, it is a journey of planting seeds of awakening in every heart, nurturing the vitality of the Lam spirit, and opening the path of spiritual growth for oneself as well as for others.
When the spirit of the Bodhisattva Path is brought into leadership, every decision not only addresses the matter at hand but also turns toward lasting benefit—balancing discipline with loving-kindness, wisdom with empathy, organizational responsibility with the vow to liberate all beings. It is the ideal of placing the growth of the collective above personal interest, taking the peace and harmony of one’s brothers and sisters as the true measure of happiness, seeing every challenge as an opportunity for cultivation, and every success as a condition for sowing further seeds of wholesome action in the world.
To “administer with the heart of the Bodhisattva Path” is thus a distinctive vision of leadership within Buddhist organizations, for it goes beyond the boundaries of ordinary management and enters the depths of the mind of practice, wisdom, and the vow of service. It is not simply the application of compassion to leadership, but the skillful integration of penetrating insight with the altruistic vow to liberate—a quality that sets GĐPT activities apart from purely secular organizations.
One who leads with the Bodhisattva mind does not regard oneself as “standing above” or “issuing orders,” but rather as a Dharma instrument of the Triple Gem—a spiritual companion walking alongside, guiding fellow Huynh Trưởng on the path. Every decision, every word, every method of problem-solving is illuminated by the Four Immeasurable Minds: Mettā (Loving-kindness) to encourage and uplift, Karunā (Compassion) to empathize and assist, Muditā (Sympathetic Joy) to share and inspire delight in collective achievements, and Upekkhā (Equanimity) to release attachment and dissolve discord.
A Leadership Council operating on the foundation of the Bodhisattva Path is one that “leads with wisdom, acts with compassion.” Wisdom enables leaders to discern the capacities, conditions, and circumstances of each unit and each Huynh Trưởng, and to chart a course and plan that is appropriate, feasible, and enduring. Compassion ignites the inner strength of every member so that they do not feel burdened, but rather supported, inspired, and sustained in their commitment despite obstacles.
The Bodhisattva spirit is also revealed in the art of harmonizing principle with flexibility—upholding discipline without severity, opening the heart to listen without losing focus, being serious in purpose yet gentle in method. Such harmony makes discipline easy to accept, turns responsibility into voluntary dedication, and unites individual effort within the collective ideal.
To lead with the Bodhisattva mind is to cultivate a selfless leadership character: placing the growth of the whole above personal accomplishment; taking the peace and unity of the community as the true measure of success; willingly bearing burdens in silence to protect the purity of the greater cause; patiently planting seeds and awaiting the harvest like the farmer tending his orchard. In such an environment, the Leadership Council becomes a gathering place for kindred spirits who strengthen and support one another at every step.
The Bodhisattva Path also teaches us to look beyond immediate advantage. Every decision made today should not only address present needs, but also plant wholesome seeds for future generations. Each visit to a local unit, each training session, each private word of encouragement can become the condition that sets a younger member upon a lifelong journey of Dharma practice. A Leadership Council that operates in this way is not only an administrative body, but also a living school of ethics, wisdom, and human warmth.
When this ideal is preserved, every member of the Leadership Council will realize that their work does not end with organizing camps, mobilizing personnel, or managing administrative tasks; it is, at its heart, the work of serving the path of awakening—helping to build a strong Lam community where every Huynh Trưởng and every youth member has the opportunity to grow in both mind and heart.
In short, to administer a Leadership Council with the heart of the Bodhisattva Path is to infuse the ideal of self-awakening, awakening others, and perfecting the practice of awakening into every task, every relationship, and every decision. It is the way to ensure that the White Lotus Path is not only present on flags or slogans, but truly alive in every day, every step, and every breath of our service.
