National Conference for Male Buddhist Members 2026:
Strengthening the foundations of Buddhist study and practice,
cultivating a commitment to service
On October 17–18, 2026, at Phước Trí Temple in Bắc Nha Trang Ward, Khánh Hòa Province, the Central Guiding Committee of the Vietnamese Buddhist Youth Association held a national conference for commissioners and assistant commissioners responsible for male Buddhist members. Bringing together 38 leaders representing 13 provincial and municipal guiding committees, the conference focused on organizational development, activities, and Buddhist study and practice to advance the male membership division in the present context.
From the perspective of Buddhist education, the conference’s significance lies in the need to establish an integral relationship between the personal development of its leaders and the organization’s capacity to grow. An educational organization rests on firm foundations when those entrusted with guiding others regularly reflect on their own character, methods, and responsibilities. The conference therefore also offered an opportunity to examine the deeper purposes of education: What are leaders passing on, how do their own lives embody those teachings, and what kind of person do they seek to nurture?

The agenda addressed strengthening leadership personnel, improving the quality of activities and Buddhist study and practice, observing the Five Precepts, and cultivating compassion, wisdom, and courage. It also emphasized bringing Buddhist values into family life, nurturing a community of companions on the path to awakening, and strengthening cooperation between the male and female membership divisions.
Viewed in light of these priorities, the development of the male membership division has a clear educational purpose: to help Buddhist practitioners translate understanding into a way of life. Ethical precepts must find expression in self-discipline; compassion must become a capacity to listen and support others; and wisdom must illuminate the choices people make in concrete circumstances. This consistency between what is learned and what is lived gives a leader moral credibility.
Within the family, Buddhist study and practice entail a responsibility to nurture an environment of understanding, respect, and love. Within the organization, fellowship must be sustained through practical support and a continuing presence in one another’s lives. These two dimensions reinforce each other, grounding education in everyday experience and enabling its values to be passed from one generation to the next.
The conference’s lasting value should therefore be assessed through meaningful changes at the local level: greater depth in activities, closer relationships between leaders and members, and more consistent mutual support. When each leader becomes an inspiring example of Buddhist study and practice, organizational development gains an enduring ethical foundation and a deeper human significance.
