Trên đại dương sinh diệt vô thường, như một vầng trăng không tàn phai theo thủy triều năm tháng. Hay như một vì sao tuy khuất trong đêm thẳm, nhưng ánh sáng vẫn còn đó soi rọi từng bước chân bao hàng hậu học. Đức Đệ Tứ Tăng Thống GHPGVNTN – Hòa Thượng Thích Huyền Quang – dẫu nhục thân đã vào cõi tịch, nhưng đạo phong, khí tiết và hùng tâm bất khuất của Ngài vẫn như suối nguồn bất tận nuôi lớn hạnh nguyện của đàn hậu tấn bốn phương.
Giờ đây chúng con – những người con trong Gia Đình Phật Tử Việt Nam trong và ngoài nước – cúi đầu trước di ảnh Ngài không phải để thương khóc, càng không để tô điểm một huyền thoại. Chúng con đảnh lễ Ngài với tâm thức của người kế thừa – với lời thệ nguyện âm thầm rằng ngọn đèn Chánh pháp Ngài đã giữ, dù gió lốc trần gian bao phen hòng dập tắt, chúng con vẫn sẽ giữ lấy, thắp sáng, truyền trao. Giữ bằng tinh thần, thắp bằng giới hạnh, truyền bằng chí nguyện không thối chuyển trên con đường phụng sự Đạo pháp và Dân tộc.
Kính bạch Giác Linh Đức Tăng Thống,
Hòa thượng đã không chọn con đường của người cầu an. Giữa cơn binh lửa thời thế, giữa áp lực cường quyền và màn đêm sắt đá, Ngài không lui về hậu liêu hay thiền thất mà thắp đuốc đi vào pháp đình, chốn lao lung và giữa lòng thế cuộc. Tiếng nói của Ngài lặng mà vang, từ hòa mà mãnh liệt – đã viết nên trang sử bất diệt của một vị Tăng không những độ sinh trong tàng kinh các, mà hộ pháp ngay trong tim mạch dân tộc.
Với Gia Đình Phật Tử Việt Nam – trong và ngoài nước – Đức Đệ Tứ Tăng Thống là một biểu tượng tối cao của Giáo Hội, đồng thời là hiện thân sống động của niềm tin giữa những mùa hoạn nạn. Chính Ngài là người đã nhiều lần khẳng định giá trị của tổ chức chúng con – một tổ chức cư sĩ, khiêm cung nhưng kiên định, lấy lý tưởng Bồ Tát hạnh làm kim chỉ nam, lấy tình Lam làm sợi chỉ xuyên suốt giữa bao chia cắt, thử thách.
Hôm nay, dẫu Hòa thượng đã hóa vân khứ thế, chúng con vẫn cảm được khí tiết ấy như đang hiển hiện trong từng lễ phục màu lam, trong tiếng hát kinh hành của đàn em, trong ánh mắt tận tụy của hàng Huynh trưởng giữa những mùa trại, mùa tu học. Hòa thượng không còn hiện thân bằng hình hài, nhưng ý chí của Ngài đang thấm vào huyết quản Lam viên như huyết mạch thâm trầm mà bất tuyệt.
Chánh pháp là ngọn cờ không được phép hạ. Và chúng con hiểu, chính từ lời ấy mà ngọn cờ Lam chưa bao giờ rủ xuống, dù giữa những mùa tang thương của đất nước, của Giáo Hội, của những mảnh đời lưu lạc.
Kính lạy Đức Đệ Tứ Tăng Thống,
Giữa cuộc đời mà vô minh lên ngôi, giữa thời đại mà lý tưởng bị mua bán bằng thỏa hiệp, sự hiện hữu của Ngài – dù là trong hoài niệm – chính là kim chỉ nam cho bao thế hệ.
Xin cúi đầu trước Giác Linh Ngài, thắp nén tâm hương thay cho vạn lời chưa nói hết. Nguyện hậu học đồng tâm, dốc chí, một lòng nương ánh đạo mà đi. Giữ trọn tình Lam, phụng sự vô úy. Dù gian nan, dù lưu đày, vẫn không quên mình là đệ tử Phật, và hậu bối của một Tăng Thống đã chọn hạnh nguyện Như Lai giữa trần thế nhiễu nhương.

Upon the vast ocean of impermanence and birth-death, there are moons that do not wane with the tides of time. There are stars that, though hidden deep within the night, still shine—illuminating the path for countless generations of disciples. The Fourth Supreme Patriarch of the Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam, Most Venerable Thích Huyền Quang, though his physical body has entered nirvana, his spiritual integrity, unwavering courage, and noble monastic bearing continue to flow like a boundless spring—nourishing the aspirations of all those who follow.
Today, we—the devoted children of the Vietnamese Buddhist Youth Association, both within and beyond Vietnam—bow before His portrait not out of sorrow, nor to embellish a legend. We bow with the consciousness of true heirs—offering our silent vow: that the torch of the Dharma He so valiantly upheld, despite the tempests of the world that sought to extinguish it, shall remain in our care, shall be kindled anew, and passed on. Guarded with resolve, lit with precepts, and carried forward with an unshakable vow to serve the Dharma and our nation.
Venerable Patriarch, we humbly address Your Sacred Spirit:
You did not choose the path of comfort or retreat. Amidst the flames of war and the steel pressure of authoritarian rule, You did not withdraw into the quietude of meditation halls, but stepped forward—torch in hand—into courtrooms, prison cells, and the very heart of worldly turmoil. Your voice—gentle yet thunderous, compassionate yet unyielding—penned an indelible chapter in the history of Buddhism: that of a monk who did not only guide beings from the sutra halls but protected the Dharma at the pulse of the nation.
To the Vietnamese Buddhist Youth Association—both inside and outside Vietnam—You are not only the highest spiritual symbol of our Church, but also a living embodiment of faith amidst adversity. You were the one who time and again affirmed the value of our lay organization—modest but steadfast, grounded in the Bodhisattva ideal, guided by selfless love and unity, weaving through every fracture and tribulation.
Though You have now transformed into clouds and returned to the vastness, we still feel Your principled presence in every grey-blue uniform, in the chanting voices of our younger siblings, in the devoted eyes of our Youth Leaders during seasons of training and cultivation. Your form may no longer walk this earth, yet Your resolve has entered the bloodstream of the Lam family, pulsing silently yet ceaselessly.
You once taught:
“The Dharma cannot bloom on enslaved soil; beings cannot find peace amidst oppression and hunger. The Buddha’s compassionate vow is to appear in the world to liberate all beings.”
The Dharma is a flag that must never be lowered. And we understand—it is from this very teaching that our Lam flag has never once been furled, even in the darkest seasons of our nation, our Church, and the scattered lives of our people.
We bow to You, Venerable Supreme Patriarch,
In a world where ignorance reigns, and ideals are sold for compromise, Your continued presence—even if only in memory—is the compass for generations to come.
With heads lowered before Your sacred image, we offer this incense of the heart in place of the myriad words we have yet to say. May we, the descendants, unite in resolve, walk firmly in the light of the Dharma, keep the Lam spirit pure, and serve with fearless dedication. Though we may face hardship and exile, may we never forget that we are disciples of the Buddha—and heirs of a Supreme Patriarch who chose the Bodhisattva’s path amid a troubled world.
